How does tokenproof work?

tokenproof lets you prove ownership of your NFTs and other tokens online and IRL without actually having to expose them. tokenproof binds your Ethereum account with your mobile device through a tokenproof token.

Verifiers set their access policy, whether it is for getting entry into an event, getting access to a project's allowlist, or claiming a role in a discord server. For example, a Verifier may create a policy that requires someone to have a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT in order to get access to a new project's pre-sale allowlist. If you have tokenproof, you can use it to prove ownership of your BAYC token without connecting the wallet that holds the NFT.

What is the tokenproof token?

The tokenproof token is essentially a proof-of-ownership token that makes it possible to bind your Ethereum account with your mobile device. Once you have the token in the tokenproof mobile wallet, you can use it to prove ownership of your NFTs both online and IRL when a verifier is using tokenproof.

The tokenproof token adheres to the Verifiable Credentials standard published by the W3C. The token itself lives in your tokenproof mobile wallet, while a registry of all tokens is hosted in decentralized storage in order to enable interoperability and revocation capabilities.

Can I use the tokenproof mobile wallet for multiple Ethereum accounts?

Yes, you may use the tokenproof mobile wallet for all Ethereum accounts you have enrolled in the tokenproof service. In order to be enrolled, each of these accounts must have a tokenproof membership.

How does membership work and what's the cost?

Tokenproof will charge a yearly fee for each Ethereum account enrolled in the service. The membership will appear as an ERC-721 token in your Ethereum wallet and will have an expiration date depending on how many years you choose to pay for.

There will be a limited number of Founder's Circle memberships for sale that will provide lifetime access to the tokenproof service.

Can I use tokenproof in more than one mobile device?

Your tokenproof token may only be synced to one single device at a time. This prevents one token from being used by multiple individuals.

How is tokenproof used IRL?

tokenproof will be used to get into events IRL through our ticketing capabilities, making your NFTs your ticket to entry. The cool thing about this is that you won't have to touch your actual Ethereum wallet to do this. Your tokens will be competely safe.

We also believe that in the near future, you will have to prove ownership of your tokens in order to claim benefits such as discounts at stores, gaining entry to gyms, clubs, etc. Tokenproof is here to support every one of those use cases.

How is tokenproof used online?

tokenproof will be used to authenticate ownership of NFTs and other tokens at any tokenproof-enabled website or service. We believe tokenproof will soon be used for things like claiming a discount at an ecommerce shop, or claiming a role in a discord server.

How does authentication actually happen?

When a tokenproof token is presented to a Verifier, the following validations are performed:

• Validation to ensure that the animated QR code generated in the past n seconds or minutes. Only applies to offline verification scenarios.

• Validation to ensure that the tokenproof token being presented was in fact issued by tokenproof.xyz

• Validation to ensure that the tokenproof token being presented has not been tampered with, by comparing its hash to the one stored published on decentralized storage.

• Validation to ensure that the tokenproof token being presented has not been revoked.

• Validation to ensure that the Ethereum account holds a valid and unexpired tokenproof Membership NFT, if the use case requires it.

• Validation to ensure that the Ethereum account complies with rules set by the Verifier. For example, holding a Bored Ape Yacht Club token.

Why does tokenproof use an animated QR code?

Tokenproof uses animated QR codes to prevent someone from creating a screenshot or a video of the QR Code and sharing it. The QR code is constantly regenerating with a timestamp in it. When a Verifier scans the QR code, tokenproof makes sure it was generated at the time of being presented.

How does tokenproof membership work?

In order to use tokenproof, you need to obtain a membership for each of the Ethereum accounts you wish to enroll. Memberships will be ERC-721 tokens, and we anticipate a secondary market for them.

What are the benefits of a Founder's Circle Membership?

The Founder's Circle membership guarantees lifetime access to the tokenproof service, as well as other benefits to be announced later.

A Founder's Circle membership allows someone to enroll an Ethereum account once and never have to pay yearly fees for the tokenproof service.

In addition to this, special events and benefits will be announced only for tokenproof Founder's Circle members. We are planning exciting events and opportunities for members who attend conferences like SXSW, NFT LA, NFT.NYC, etc...

What if a verifier wants to use tokenproof but does not want to limit access to tokenproof members only?

We understand that it is highly unlikely that a verifier will want to use tokenproof if it would force their users or event attendees to purchase a tokenproof membership. Because of this, we have ticketing capabilities that will enable the issuance of single-use tokenproof tokens or tickets.

Additionally, the tokenproof online verifier will also allow users to authenticate ownership of tokens through the traditional mechanism of connecting a wallet and signing a message, if the user is not enrolled in the tokenproof membership.
